$9.2m Cathedral Square development on hold over lack of progress

  • The $9.2m redevelopment of Cathedral Square is on hold because of uncertainty over surrounding rebuild projects including the Convention Centre.

Billed as recreating the “civic heart of central Christchurch”, the Square plan promises trees and greenery, shade and shelter, a series of small spaces surrounding the main area and places for entertainment and culture.

Christchurch City Council services general manager David Adamson said the plan would have to wait for certainty on some big developments.
