At home with Northland artist Liz McAuliffe

• Liz McAuliffe, 55, is a carver and painter living in Kohukohu, a historic village on the Hokianga Harbour in Northland.

We liked it warmer so we thought we’d come up north – this is about 13 years ago. The house prices were rising as we were driving up the country. We stayed in 27 beds over three months, searching for a house and living out of the car.
