Aucklanders miss out on first-home subsidy

  • Aucklanders appear to be being short-changed when it comes to accessing a government subsidy aimed at helping first home-buyers.

The Homestart KiwiSaver subsidy was introduced on April 1 last year replacing the first home buyers subsidy.

It set a price cap of $550,000 for home-buyers in Auckland and increased the amount of money a couple could get for buying a newly built home from $10,000 to $20,000.
