Fonterra turns back on small farmers in Chile

  • A New Zealand farmer living in Chile claims Fonterra’s subsidiary Soprole has upset small Chilean dairy farmers by refusing to take their milk in favour of sourcing it from Kiwi-owned farm Manuka.

“There is certainly no respect or consultation for dairy farmers in Chile. I was at a meeting late last year, with farmers literally crying at what was being done to them,” Matt Saywell told Fairfax Media.

Saywell worked for Manuka in 2012 but in 2013 bought a farm in the same southern region.
