Govt pegs 300 new homes for social or lower-cost housing

  • The Government says 150 of the 740 dwellings to be built on spare land in Auckland could be sold for “affordable” prices.

Another 150 could be used for social housing, Housing Minister Nick Smith says.

Dr Smith confirmed yesterday that the Government had completed negotiations for housing developments on three sites in Manukau, Mt Albert and Waterview. The biggest development is on a 1.85ha site in Manukau Station Rd, where up to 600 apartments will be built.
