One of the Garden City’s most significant homes is going under the hammer in a mortgagee sale this month.

Cobham, in Merivale, is a Historic Places Category 2-listed house that was designed by the renowned England brothers, and built for wool auctioneer Henry Jennings in 1908.

A heritage assessment by the Christchurch City Council notes the England Brothers were known for their “rather rambling, romantic, timber-beamed houses in a variety of styles”.
