Wellington City Council accused of favouring ‘wealthier’ suburbs with multi-storey homes plan

  • Wellington City Council has been accused of kow-towing to residents of its wealthier suburbs after it agreed to push ahead with plans to squeeze more housing into some parts of the city, but not others.

Councillors voted last week to draft up new rules for the northern suburbs of Newlands and Tawa allowing medium density housing in those areas.

But it will proceed at a slower place with similar plans for the suburbs of Khandallah, Island Bay and Karori.
