Wellington’s Housing Crisis

  • As reports surface of Wellington students having to sleep in tents, doss on friends’ couches, crash in caravans and even hole up in Victoria University’s library for the night, it seems the capital’s rental crisis is showing no sign of easing.

With students flooding in, the decline in social housing eating into the private market and fewer flats, the problem is serious, which has prompted the university to set up an emergency accommodation register.
