Māori hotel

The developers behind plans for a new $80 million hotel in Rotorua are aiming to construct the tallest building in the city – but that’s not the only point of difference they’re hoping to create.

Iwi group Rotoma No.1 have revealed plans for a 170 room hotel development in the city’s Arawa St, and it will come with a unique Māori focus.

Rotoma No.1 chief executive Neville King said one of their key aims would be to showcase “elements around our culture”.

They plan to talk the talk too, as King said the hotel would be “a place where our language is much more prominent. A place you can express it”.
