A landmark Gold Coast property has sold under the hammer for a whopping $1.875 million over its reserve price in a fiercely competitive auction on Sunday.

Perched atop the most eastern point on the Burleigh headland on an 810-square-metre block with spectacular views, the 1960s property at 1 Short Street, Burleigh Heads had been in the same family for 57 years – an indication of how tightly held the Gold Coast’s most sought-after real estate was, said marketing agent Michael Kollosche of Kollosche.

“Burleigh Heads, Mermaid Beach, Broadbeach and Main Beach are hot – they’re really the beach suburbs at the moment where wealthy owner-occupiers are looking to get into,” he said.
