An Invercargill landlord says his property has been wrecked by a tenant who kept 16 cats and a vicious dog at the place.

The landlord appeared in the Invercargill Tenancy Tribunal this month, seeking to terminate the rental agreement he had with tenant Narena Te Huia.

Te Huia did not appear at the hearing, and the tribunal was told she had fled the city owing $4020, or 16 weeks rent.
