UK media personality Phil Spencer, renowned for hosting “Location Location Location,” is set to explore some of Aotearoa’s finest homes in a new TVNZ+ series.
Launching on Sunday, “New Zealand’s Best Homes” will feature 18 of the country’s most stunning properties.
In an interview with 1News, Spencer shared his excitement about filming in New Zealand. “We’ve carefully selected a diverse range of homes—city homes, mountain homes, lake homes, beachside properties, island retreats, and off-grid residences. All 18 homes are absolutely phenomenal, showcasing the creativity of the architects and the willingness of the owners to build remarkable, design-conscious homes.
“The craftsmanship of the builders and tradies is exceptional, something we don’t often see in the UK. The restrictive planning system back home limits such creativity, so it has been wonderful to witness the innovative work of New Zealand’s architects and builders.”
Spencer emphasized the diverse landscapes of New Zealand, noting, “It’s a small country with a vast array of landscapes within short distances. Architects here design homes that harmonize with their surroundings, which has been fantastic to see.”
He pointed out that lifestyle matters significantly to Kiwis, contrasting it with the UK. “Many of these homes are built to support specific lifestyles. Whether it’s walking, fishing, or surfing, the homes are designed to accommodate the owners’ hobbies and passions. Lifestyle is super important to Kiwis, and that’s great.”
When asked about his favorite place in New Zealand, Spencer found it difficult to choose between the mountainous south and the beachy north. He loved Queenstown and Great Barrier Island equally, appreciating their unique beauty. “They are at opposite ends of the spectrum, but I could get used to both. I just couldn’t pick a favorite.”
He also praised the proximity of nature to urban areas. “In Auckland, you can work at the cutting edge of an industry and, with a 45-minute commute, enjoy an incredible lifestyle in a beautiful place, whether it’s in the hills, by the beach, or on an island. It’s pretty special.”
“It has really opened my eyes. New Zealand is a very special place with very beautiful landscapes and people.”
