The NZ Transport Agency is evacuating its Palmerston North office, housing its national call centre, after investigations found it was earthquake prone.

The agency’s interim chief executive Mark Ratcliffe said investigations were done this week, with the results coming in on Thursday.

The building, 43 Ashley St, on the corner with Ferguson St, was below 34 per cent of the building standard, so was being evacuated and closed until further notice, he said.

The other tenants in the building were also evacuating, he said.

“Our first priority on receiving this information from the engineers was to advise staff and clear the building.
