Government legislation allowed nine years of unpaid rates to accrue on a derelict South Waikato home.

The Nevis Crescent property in Tokoroa was sold to since-deregistered Australian company Finchoice Pty Limited in 2009 for $45,000.

But from that time on not one cent of the $25,116.90 rates bill was paid to the South Waikato District Council which has now been granted ownership of the tired lot.
