Two other people aged 17 and 14 are in hospital after the attack in Medbury Tce in Fendalton at about 10:30pm on Friday.

When police arrived they found three people with serious injuries.

The teenager later died while the other two are stable in hospital, they are believed to be from the wider Christchurch area.

Det Insp Scott Anderson told a media stand-up no arrests had been made in the homicide investigation and police were still examining the scene.

Anderson said around 80 young people attended the party in the three bedroom house and alcohol was involved.

He said a post mortem was being carried out on the deceased victim, while the other two were in a serious but stable condition. The victim’s names had not been released to give the family time to break the news of the tragedy to relatives.
