Recently widowed grandmother, June Smith, made headlines when she won a staggering $9 million mansion in Cornwall, UK, by entering the Omaze Million Pound House Draw with a mere £25 ($48). The luxurious three-storey, six-bedroom house, the largest-ever house prize in a British draw, came with the added bonus of being mortgage-free, covering all stamp duty and legal fees, and also granting Ms. Smith a cash prize of £100,000 ($194,000) to help her settle in.

Having lost her husband of 42 years, Ron, to a heart attack the previous year, Ms. Smith was initially undecided about the mansion’s fate. Local estate agents estimated the property’s potential rental income to be between $9,500 and $14,000 (£5,000-7,000) per month, while during peak seasons, it could fetch up to $27,000 (£14,000) per week as a holiday let.

Although she initially expressed intentions to keep the property for a while, Ms. Smith surprisingly decided to put the stunning concrete and glass abode up for sale just three months after claiming her prize. The house is now listed on the real estate website RightMove for £4.5 million (A$8.7 million), the same value it held when she won it.
