House hunters will still be able to attend open homes this weekend as Waikato real estate bosses say it’s business as usual – sort of.

Real estate firms have acted on guidance from the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) on how to safely run auctions and open homes in light of the coronavirus.

The recommendations include having hand sanitiser available at property viewings and auctions, and asking unwell people to stay away.

Anyone who’s been overseas during the past two weeks, or been in contact with a confirmed Covid-19 case, are also being asked to not attend open homes and auctions.

Lodge Real Estate managing director Jeremy O’Rourke said the suite of REINZ recommendations are comprehensive and complement standard open home protocols.

“Asking people not to touch things is a protocol that’s normally in place anyway,” O’Rourke said.
