A derelict heritage home in St Kilda sold for almost $100,000 above its reserve on Saturday despite being described as “terrifying” by prospective buyers in the pre-auction inspection.

The property at 60 Pakington Street, St Kilda, was dubbed the suburb’s “worst house” and deemed unliveable after the owner moved out some time ago. On Saturday buyers stepped over struts that held together walls with massive structural fissures only minutes before auctioneer David Wood of Hocking Stuart Albert Park kicked off the sale in front of a 70-strong crowd.
