According to STUFF past the big green gates, the Greenmantle estate looks more like something from the Golden age of Hollywood than the hillside of Paraparaumu, on the Kāpiti Coast.
One side of the sprawling, 40s-built manor, is wrapped by a deep, shaded colonnade, the kind you could easily imagine Cary Grant mixing drinks for Katherine Hepburn on.
Surrounded by manicured gardens and lush native bush, Greenmantle was extensively remodelled in the 90s, and in the 2000s transformed into exactly the sort of place Hepburn and Grant would stay if they were still around today: a secluded, luxury lodge, fit for diplomats, Danish heavy metal stars, and golfing legend Tiger Woods.
“We don’t kiss then tell about our guests,” says former journalist and host-with-the-most Ralph Green, who owns the property with wife Letizia Columbano and son Lorenzo Green.
