Jack Price wanted to live in Wellington’s inner city.

The 24-year-old and his partner, Emily Kremmer, had tried it as renters and liked it.

“It’s just that we’re young, it’s great to be in the city, close to everything, close to work,” he says. “So we thought if we could buy an apartment, then we’d have the same lifestyle.”

They had the financial backing of two sets of parents, a decent budget of about $400,000, reasonable expectations of what that would buy, and no need of a car park.
