Tauranga City Council has announced all of the properties in the former Bella Vista Homes development at The Lakes have been deemed dangerous and cannot be occupied, despite some having been issued code of compliance status by the same council.

It is unprecedented to have 21 homes issued dangerous building certificates at the same time.

On April 17 council representatives met with Bella Vista homeowners and residents to present findings from the assessment of the subdivision that began on March 9 when the homes were evacuated.

Based on the findings of geotechnical, structural, and compliance experts, council deemed each of the 21 properties dangerous and affected, or affected under the Building Act 2004.
