A King Country house that had a council valuation of $130,000 but sold for $60,000 may be the bargain of the year.

Homes.co.nz has released a list of the residential properties that sold furthest above and below their council valuations, in percentage terms, in the first eight months of 2019.

The property in the town of Kakahi, in the Ruapehu District, had three bedrooms, one bathroom and a 4191 square metre section.

In second place was a property in Forrest Hill, Auckland, which had a 2017 CV of $920,000 but sold for $425,000 in January.

CoreLogic data shows there is significant variation around the country.
