🏡 From 1960s Brick to Bold Three-Storey Statement
The long-awaited transformation of Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Stefanovic’s Castlecrag property is finally taking shape — and it’s nothing short of dramatic.
After years of planning, court battles, and demolition, the couple’s $4.5 million luxury mansion is now emerging as a striking three-storey structure, perched just 9km north of Sydney’s CBD in the tightly held suburb of Castlecrag.
But while the home is soaring upward, there appears to be one notable sacrifice: outdoor living space.

🔨 A Home Pushed Back — And Up
Recent photos reveal the former 1960s brick residence has been pushed deep into what was once the backyard — an area that previously housed a spa and gazebo. The result?
✔️ More internal volume
❌ Less usable outdoor space
At this time last year, the site was little more than rubble after the couple completely demolished the original dwelling to make way for their ambitious rebuild.
🧱 What’s Planned Inside the Stefanovic Mansion?
According to development documents, the new home will include:
🛏️ Five bedrooms
🛁 Five bathrooms
🚗 Three-car garage
🏊 Pool and spa
🎬 Entertainment room
🌿 Central courtyard
🌀 Indoor circular staircase
🌞 High ceilings & slanted architectural windows
Plans also show 102sqm of living space below ground level, contributing to the legal wrangle that delayed construction.

Photos captured this week show what was once a 1960s brick house slowly transforming into a dramatic three-storey abode

This time last year (left), the property was a pile of rubble as the couple completely demolished the existing humble house to make way for their new and improved mansion

It looks like renovations still have a long way to go before the final product is habitable for the couple and their five-year-old daughter, Harper
⚖️ Court Win After Council Standoff
The rebuild only moved forward after a major legal victory in the NSW Land and Environment Court in March 2024.
After a year-long dispute with Willoughby Council, the court ruled in favour of the celebrity couple following a two-day hearing.
While the development generally complied with planning rules, it exceeded local floor-space ratio limits, prompting objections from neighbours citing:
👀 Loss of views
🌞 Solar panel glare
🏘️ Scale and bulk concerns

By December 2024, the knock-down was well and truly underway, with the roof removed and several internal walls demolished while the brick exterior remained

A design sketch shows the finished property will feature a stunning contemporary design, spacious surroundings, French windows and an indoor circular staircase
📍 A Prime Castlecrag Address
The Stefanovics purchased the property in 2021 for $3.2 million, vacating the home in July 2024 once approvals were secured.
Originally, the house featured:
Expansive escarpment views
A self-contained unit with private entry
Classic mid-century proportions
Those elements are now being replaced with a contemporary architectural showpiece.
👨👩👧 Family Life Between States
Karl and Jasmine split their time between Sydney and Queensland, raising their five-year-old daughter Harper, while Karl also shares three adult children — Jackson, Willow and River — with ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn.
The couple married in December 2018 in San José del Cabo, Mexico, and have since become fixtures of Australia’s celebrity and property elite.
