A high-profile Sydney real estate agent, Roger Agha, has been banned from the industry for at least a year after “sabotaging” his employer’s contact list before quitting to start his own competing business.

In 2019, the NSW Supreme Court found Agha altered more than 900 clients’ phone numbers in Devine Group’s contact database as part of a plan to siphon customers to his new employer, Belle Property. The court ruled that this act was a “systematic and repeated sabotage” aimed at harming his former employer’s business.

Although Agha denies the allegations, admitting only to taking clients with him when he left Devine in 2017, the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) cancelled his real estate license, citing his improper use of confidential client information.
This ongoing legal battle has taken a massive toll on Devine Group’s principal, Steven Devine, who says it led to the sale of his family home and the collapse of their decades-old business. The case returns to the NSW Supreme Court on October 21.

Agha has announced plans to appeal the decision.
